Okonta Emeka Okelum, Asaba
Delta State government, today, Tuesday, received at Asaba, young Deltans deported from Libya recently.
About 80 young Deltans were received by Barr. Ernest Ogwezzy, Commissioner, bureau for special duties, on behalf of the state governors.
On behalf of the state governor, I want to formally welcome you back to your state.
The state government is grateful to God for saving your lives in the face of absolute dehumanizing treatment meted out on all of you by Libyan security agents.
I urge you all to put those experiences behind you, choose a new path of life and look forward to a brighter tommorow, the governor charged them.
The government maintained that all the can do for now is just to welcome them back to the state.
This position was the government's stance due to the bureaucracies associated with budget and funding.
Barr. Ernest Ogwezzy charged the returnees to return back to their communities, become ambassadors who will advise other youths against embarking on such dangerous adventure.
He also encouraged them to enroll in the Government Skill and Entrepreneurial Programmes (STEP) and Youth Agricultural Empowerment Programme (YAGEP) through their local government offices in order to fast track their re-integration into the society.
Some of the returnees interviewed by journalists shared many accounts of ill treatment they endured in Libya and begged the state government to assist them with basic healthcare and livelihood needs as well as declared their Committment to become more responsible young Deltans.
