It is unbelievable that hundreds of billions have been received yearly by state governments in Nigeria and yet there is no state in Nigeria that has established the basic requirements of decent livelihood for the people. The collapse of public education and healthcare in spite of billions of naira which governments in Nigeria share daily is a provocation which Nigerians should no longer tolerate. In spite of the billions received, our Nigerians are amongst the poorest people in the world. Ironically, we have the richest retired generals and former presidents than the richest countries in the world.
Nothing illustrates the failure of the Nigerian politics since 1999 better than the return of Generals in PDP to capture power in Nigeria. If Nigerian democracy under the PDP was not a total sham why would General Ibrahim Babangida, a man who annulled the freest and fairest election in Nigeria, wasted the lives of millions of Nigerians through political manipulation and economic and social policies that wiped off the middle class, come back after 16years to impose himself on Nigerians as President? The same man now claims that he is coming back because younger Nigerians lack the capacity to manage the country. What an outrage!
It is time to take back the country from Babangida and likes. It is time to say enough of misrule by the PDP. It is time to shout down on fake ‘progressives’ who cannot sit together and buried individual political ambition and organized a strong opposition to end PDP’s decade of misrule.
The mission of the Good Governance Group is to wake Nigerians up to the challenge of redressing the leadership deficit that sentenced even the best and richest of us to misery. If as privileged as he is Alhaji Rimi could die the way he did then no one is exempt from the cruel misrule of the PDP. The change we desire begins with active participation of every Nigerian, young and old, teachers, professionals, business people and workers, to demand for accountability from state governors for how they spent the billions they have received from the Federation Account on behalf of the States and Local Government.
We have decided to lead Nigerians on a different course; a course that will lead to an end of the nightmare which the ruling PDP and the dominant political class has inflicted on Nigerians. We are prepared to champion the formation of a truly democratic and development-oriented political party that will guarantee a new politics that focuses on the welfare of the people and not the pecuniary interests of the elites. We have no fixations on whether this new platform will be entirely a fresh party or a sanitized and reformed old party. But the basic issue is that it will be a party that recognizes the colossal failure of the last decade and changes the logic of politics from corruption to governance. The people, not the Generals, will be the driving force of such platform.

The problems with Nigeria are many and multi-faceted, but the journey to good governance must begin with the judicious and transparent use of public resources for public good.
