PDP State Congress: Uduaghan, Utuama, Others Shun Congress

•Chief Uzor State Why Some Were Absent

•Congress Peaceful, Barr Kingsley Esiso Emerge State Chairman

Okonta Emeka Okelum, Asaba, Delta State

The Delta State Congress of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) judged to be peaceful by many today, had its own fair share of gaps, challenges and issues begging for answers.

The absence or shunning of the party’s state congress by some highly expected party statutory delegates sent some wrong signals about the adjudged peaceful exercise.

The immediate past governor of the state, his deputy and other major statutory delegates from the various local government areas of the state were reportedly absent or shunned the congress.

The former governor Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, his deputy Governor, Prof. Amos Utuama SAN, some notably and closely attached former commissioners to the duo were equally absent, also absent were some members of the House Of Representatives, from the three senatorial districts of the state.

Barr. Kingsley Esiso at the end of the congressreturned unopposed as the state chairman of the party.

The immediate past state chairman of the party, Chief Edwin Uzor in a media chat with newsmen at the venue of the congress shared why some of the delegates were absent.

Some of these statutory delegates you registered their absence are on party official duties in other states, some of them would have being here today, but we were reliably informed that they missed their flights, Chief Uzor defended.

Amongst many who either were absent or shuned the congress include the following, Chief Sen. Ighoyota Amori, Chief Dr (Mrs) Nneamaka Ali, Hon Ned Nwoko, Dr, Otumara, former SSG under Governor Uduaghan, Chief Ovuozorie Macaulay, Ide Tony Nwaka, former Power and Energy Commissioner, Chief Hon Charles Emetulu, and former Commissioner of Basic Education, Prof. Patrick Muoboghare.

Some political watchers our reporter spoke with after the congress shared that the reason behind the perceived absence of some of the party’s strong men could be traced to some unsatisfactory outcomes of the just concluded party ward and LGA congresses in most council areas of the state.

Both the chairman elect and the state governor, Sen. Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, thanked the party faithfuls, leaders, elders and members for the peaceful conduct of all present.

Just yesterday, at the residence of Chief Amori, Asaba Post News Wire was informed that some Pro-PDP leaders and elders from the Delta Central Senitorial District gathered to showcase the anointed state chairman of the party, since the position was zoned to that district.

Some visibly aggrieved party members suggested that the absence of some of these party chieftains is traceable to the yet pleasant and generally accepted truce reached before today’s state congress.

Asaba Post News Wire learnt that a host of party elders and leaders from the Delta Central Senatorial Distrct kicked against the suggestion of Barr Kingsley Esiso on the grounds that all his past political activities had being at his maternal Delta South Senatorial District, despite his paternal Delta Central Senatorial District, as well as the quest for a full blooded Delta Central Senatorial District Son.

They believed that the governor is unjustly imposing somebody upon them, we learnt these leaders and elders had threatened to challenge this imposition and upon zero success might pull out of the party and support any compatible opposition political party
