Unprovoked Police Attack On PDP Members

Press Statement

Party Berates Action Of ACP Steven Hasso

Says Action Amounts To Affront Against Govt

The Chairman of the Rivers State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Bro Felix Obuah says the unprovoked attack and shooting of the members of the PDP on peaceful solidarity visit to the State House of Assembly Thursday, November 17, 2016 by men and officers of the State Police Command is barbaric and a threat to Nigeria’s nascent democracy.

A statement signed by the Special Adviser to the State PDP Chairman, Bro Obuah on Media and Publicity, Jerry Needam also took exception to the shameful and unprofessional role by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Steven Hasso during the peaceful procession,  an act, the PDP described as partisan, breach of security and threat to the peace in the State.

More regrettable and worrisome, Bro Obuah noted, is the ignoble and unprofessional act of same Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of operations in the State, ACP Steven Hasso who in another development, led armed thugs of the All Progressives Congress, APC to Government House Port Harcourt, same day, simultaneously the APC protest was going on.

That Mr Hasso could shamelessly and boldly shun all sense of responsibility and attempted to force his way with the APC supporters into Government House without recourse to the Chief Security Officer of Government House and even assaulting him clearly shows that Mr Hasso is simply dancing to the music being played by a fifth columnist, Bro Obuah stated.

Bro Obuah said the action of ACP Hasso is nothing short of a coup against a legitimately constituted authority, and Governor of the State, Barr Nyesom Wike and must be punished accordingly by the Nigeria Police force because he deserves nothing less.

“Though intelligence reports had always revealed Mr Hasso’s surreptitious dealings with the APC Chieftains and named him as a card carrying member of the party, we never imagined he would go as far as confronting Government House Chief Security Officer and his men and openly shouting that the APC protesters must meet with the Governor since they could not access the State House of Assembly. It’s therefore very obvious Mr Hasso is on a mission to deliver the APC during the December 10, re-run elections in the State. His action suggests he is an APC member in Police uniform to say the least, and no serious and impartial Police force will allow this to stand except the Rivers State Police Command is admitting that it’s acting in concert with the APC which is very unfortunate”, Bro Obuah declared.

‘We condemn in its entirety, the shooting of several members of the PDP who participated in the solidarity visit to the Rivers State House of Assembly by men of the Nigeria Police, led by ACP Steven Hasso’.

Jerry Needam

Special adviser on media and publicity

To the Rivers PDP Chairman, Bro Felix Obuah
