The Red Cross Society of Nigeria has honoured Hon Angela Nwaka, representing Aniocha South constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly with a "Life Associate Member Award" in recognition of her selfless service to humanity.
The investiture ceremony was performed in Asaba and witnessed by the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Friday Osanebi; Majority Whip, Hon Eric Oharisi; Hon Micheal Diden; Hon Evance Ivwurie; Hon Peter Uviejitobor and Hon Shola Diabo.
Speaking at the occasion, the Delta State Chairman of the Red Cross Society of Nigeria, Mr Victor Olasupo disclosed that the approval for the investiture was endorsed at the headquarters of the Red Cross Society in Abuja based on Nwaka’s antecedents in humanitarian and selfless service to the people, especially in given medical treatment and financial support to displaced persons and victims of the 2012 flood disaster in the state.
Olasupo said the mission of the Nigeria Red Cross Society was to partner with volunteers and agencies in giving emergency services and humanitarian aids to those in need.
He called on state legislators to promulgate laws that would make first aid training compulsory for all, pointing out that such people-oriented laws will mitigate extreme cases during emergency.
Also speaking, the State Training Officer of the Red Cross Society, Mr Paul Olukomaya indicated that there was no fatality in the IDP Camp in 2012 because of the professional input of Hon Nwaka and urged her not to relent in using her position to improve more lives.
Responding, the recipient, Hon Angela Nwaka while thanking the Red Cross Society of Nigeria for the honour done her, described the award as a call to greater service to God and humanity.
Nwaka who is an international trained Nurse, said she has passion to render selfless service to humanity because of her Christian background and feeling for the poor and promised to support issues that will promote the activities of the Nigeria Red Cross Society in the State House of Assembly.
The Chairman of the occasion, Hon Michael Diden representing Warri North constituency, congratulated Nwaka for the award and reminded Nigerians of the need to show love and care to one another in order to promote a better society.
Highlight of the occasion was the decoration of Nwaka with the rank of the Red Cross Society of Nigeria by the Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Osanebi, assisted by Hon Diden to the admiration of all.
