DTSG Immortalize Iyase Of Asaba's Legacy, Contribution

Delta State Government recently immortalized all politicall and social cultural contributions of Chief P.I.G Onyeobi.





According to a correspondence, captioned 'letter of recognition' from the state government's ministry of basic and secondary education to Chief P.I.G Onyeobi, dated 24th October, 2017, contains full details.

The letter signed by the ministry's commissioner, Chiedu Ebie, maintained that at the 12th meeting of the state's executive council, held on 8th August, 2017,  Iyase Ahaba's contributions to humanity and development were noted.

'Your immense contributions to the development of the defunct Bendel state and Delta State were noted'

'In particular, your role as a peace loving statesman and a driver of discipline and excellence in the civil service when you served as Secretary to the Government and Head of Service of Bendel State was underscored by the council'

'I am pleased to convey council's decision that the new college recently established in the state capital be named after you'

'It is to be known and called Isioma Onyeobi College, Asaba' the commissioner wrote to Iyase Ahaba.

The state government also lauded the palace chief over his recent remarkable roles played that facilitated the provision of both temporary and permanent sites of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Asaba.

The commissioner also urged the traditional institution to ensure that the facilities in the school are protected from vandalism and charged the host community to give maximum co-operation to the school's staff.

On Monday, 30th April, 2018, the state government performed the official commissioning of a 2No.  Block of six classroom in Isioma Onyeobi College, Asaba.

The school's pioneer principal, Mrs V.O. Briki-Okolosi, appreciated the state government for establishing more schools to cater for the growing population of youths and children in the state.

Mrs Briki-Okolosi said, the school started operations in September 2017, with students admitted into junior secondary classes 1 and 2 and senior secondary class 1.

'The school has 33 teaching and 11 non-teaching staff and a student population of 393'

'The school is adequately equipped with desks, chairs for students with tables and chairs for staff' the principal said.

Mrs Briki-Okolosi urged the community and well meaning individuals to help the school meet it's challenges.

'We need laboratory equipment, computers, office equipment, drum set, sports equipment, art studio, music equipment and a well stocked library' the principal appealed.

In his speech, during the commissioning of the school's project, Chief Onyeobi, said he was surprised when he received a letter from the state government informing him that the school will be named after him.

'I never expected this great honour from the state government' chief Onyeobi said.

He also appreciated the state governor and his executive council for their act of recognition extended to him.

'I wish to formally and publicly thank his Excellency and his council for the great honor which is being concretized today and also for the giant development taking place in Asaba, which will help transform Asaba into a capital worthy of Oil rich Delta State'

'I pray that as you have honoured me, your Excellency, may the Almighty God honour you and all who advised you and make your lives as sweet as honey' Iyase Asaba prayed.

To the pioneer student of the school, Chief Onyeobi, congratulated them, enjoined them to study and work hard to acquire knowledge, as knowledge is power.

Quoting late President John F Kennedy, Chief Onyeobi pointed out that 'our progress as a nation can be no swifter than our progress in education, as uneducated people make a weak nation'

'You children are the leaders of tommorrow and you must not fail the nation' Iyase of Asaba maintained.

He also urged all in attendance to seek means at supporting the school meets areas of challenges mentioned by the school principal.
