Reports from a recent research finding made public by a Delta State based Non-Governmental Organization Koyenum Immallah Foundation) revealed that Malaria Currently is the Chief Cause of Newborn and under five mortality.
Speaking at a recent rural health care development grass-root sensitization program, to community gate-keepers, elders council, youth and women groups, where internally displaced persons reside, Miss Faith Nwadishi, the Executive Director, Koyenum Immalah foundation, cited Malaria, measles, diarrhea, acute respiratory infection (AR) as major illness that could lead to newborn and under five mortality.
Nwadishi’s presentation revealed that malaria account for 31% of the lead cause of Newborn and under five mortality, while Measles, Diarrhea, acute respiratory infections (AR) account for 23%, 20% and 16% respectively.
Earlier, Miss Nwadishi listed poverty, Conflict, poor governance, corruption, man-made and natural disasters as key social-economic and politically motivated factors that lead to continuous increase in new born and under-five mortality rate.
The research finding formed part of the numerous revelations a community development project tilled “enhancing essential sexual reproductive health and HIV/AIDS care in post conflict and internally displaced persons communities, made public.
Since 2005, Action Aid Nigeria, with resources and technical support from the European Union, has worked closely with some non-governmental organizations in Nigeria towards the outcome of the research findings.
