*Advocates that he be immortalized

Okonta Emeka Okelum, Asaba. Delta State

A virtuous man’s deed, they say cannot be forgotten, should mankind does, the stars of the heavens will never.

This truism, a Non Governmental Organization, the Ejiro and Otive Igbuzor Foundation, yesterday, at Ughelli, Delta State stamped a seal of confirmation at.

The foundation in the past eight years had instituted an annual culture of unveiling to the public both personal and leadership traits that distinguished Late Chief Demas Akpore from his peers and why the state and nation should immortalize this great Deltan.

In his opening address, the foundation’s president, Dr. Otive Igbuzor, shared deeper insights into the foundation’s activities and more reasons why the foundation had in the past eight years constantly celebrated Chief Akpore’s legacy through public lectures.

Our foundation believes strongly in all the political and social-cultural ideologies Late Chief Akpore stood for and lived by, hence our commitment to his ideals.

This year’s public lecture with the topic ‘Chief Demas Akpore, women and national development’ was delivered by Dr.(Mrs.) Ufoma Maduku Ahwefeada, unveiled a lot about Chief Demas Akpore’s commitment to the social-cultural development of women and the girl child.

Dr. P.O. Itedjere, who represented the event’s chairman, Prof. Simon Obikpeko Umukoro, in his opening remarks encouraged participants to emulate the foundation and seek modest ways to touch lives in their little ways, as a means at immortalizing the legacies of Chief Akpore.

You have tried, but you have not started, let your impact grow wider, the event’s chairman urged the foundation.

Chief Demas akpore’s first son, Jumo, appreciated the foundation’s annual event and noted that they are doing the right thing for his family, Delta State, Nigeria and humanity in general.

One of the major highlights of the day was a literary and choral performance by Chief Demas Akpore Cultural, Literary and Dramatic Clubs, drawn from selected secondary school students within Ughelli North Local Government Area.

The club performed a native cultural orchestral choral piece in Urhobo language extolling the selfless leadership traits of Chief Demas Akpore and human development contributions of the foundation.
Participants at the event collectively agreed that now is the time to immortalize Chief Akpore and urged the foundation to champion the course.

Further in his media interaction with Asaba Post News-Wire, Dr. Otive observed that the foundation’s annual lecture is a non-partisan approach to development, we believe that service is the essence of politics.
Throwing more light on the activities of the foundation, Dr. Otive mentioned various educational scholarship programs, entrepreneurial support revolving loan schemes, widowhood support initiatives, the foundation initiated since 2003.

We built, equipped and run a Niger-Delta Resource Center, where citizens, academicians, journalists and activists access and exchange information on key governance and sustainable development issues within the Niger-Delta Regions, Dr. Otive told our reporter.
