A new Commissioner of Police, Mr Garba Umar, has been posted
to the Anambra State Police Command.
Mr Umar took over from the former Commissioner, Mr. Sam
Okaula who retired after attaining the retirement age of sixty on June
Twentieth.
Men of the state police command mounted a guard of honour at
the arrival of the new helmsman in the state.
Mr Umar later proceeded to be handed over by the former
Commissioner, Mr Okaula in company of some high ranking officers of the state
command.
While handing over, the erstwhile police boss in the state,
called for total support by the citizens of the state for the new commissioner.
In his maiden speech, the new police Commissioner, Mr Umar
read his riot act to criminals in the state noting that he will stop at nothing
in ensuring that crime does not return to the state.
Mr Umar noted the successes made in the fight against crime
and criminality in the state, and sought for support from all and sundry under
his administration.
Mr. Umar was commissioner of police in Bauchi state before
he was redeployed to Anambra state.
With great success already recorded in making Anambra a
crime free state, expectations are high for the new police leadership in the
state to consolidate on the wins made by his predecessors and the state
government.
