Christian Women Group Crusade Against Gender Violence

Apparently not comfortable with the increasing cases of domestic and societal violence against women and girl child, an Asaba based religious group broke their silence.

The Mothers Union, Church of the Lord (Prayer Fellowship) World Wide, Delta East Diocese, over the week organised and implemented various activities to demonstrate their unpleasant response to the societal menace.

Responding to newsmen's questions, Church Mother Roselyn Ezeigbo, Wife of the diocesan head, expressed gratitude to God over the successful activities and peaceful active participation recorded so far.

This year's celebration marks the maiden convention of the prayer fellowship, which had been in the blueprint since three years now.

Church Mother Ezeigbo noted that the annual convention started on 28th June and will be rounded up on Sunday, 2nd July, 2017, with a thanksgiving service.

Venerable(Mrs) Lilian Akhiemokhali, zonal supritendent, zone A, Delta East Diocese, our reporter that some of the fellowship members over the period of the convention benefited and had their capacities built through workshops, seminars and skill acquisition programs.

One of the highlights of the maiden annual convention, was an Asaba city wide rally against all forms of violence against women and the girl child.

The prayer fellowship's leadership believe that a combined and multi-sectoral response to the menance will bring about the desired societal change.

Sharing her views, Evang Elizabeth O Okolo, coordinator, Delta East Diocese of the prayer fellowship, appreciated the women's active participation since the convention began.

One of the reasons for this rally, is to appeal to our men to always love their wives, wives should respect their husbands and families should seek all opportunites to end all forms of child labour.

We urge all government agencies and functionaries to join forces with us, with a view at seeking proactive measures towards ending gender violence, child labour, prostitution and related social vices, Evang Okolo pointed out.
