GOVT WILL CONTINUE TO UPHOLD WORKERS’ WELFARE- SIR OKEY OFILI

The Delta State Head of Service, Sir Okey Ofili, has said that the lots of the workers in the State Civil Service have been enhanced with the kind approval by Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of the position of Directors from Grade level 16 to Grade level 17.

Sir Ofili stated this at Asaba, while declaring open, a meeting of the standing committee on schemes of service of the National Council on Establishment.

According to the Head of Service, the Delta State government would continue to uphold the deliberations and recommendation of the standing committee with very high regards, have faith in the work of the committee, and shall continue to show more than a passing interest in its activities.

He said that the National Council on Establishment and its standing committee on schemes of service has a responsibility to look at all matters from service wide implications and would not be disposed to accepting requests that would not add value to the system.

Sir Ofili  used the occasion to urge members of the committee to look at all issues before the committee with a great sense of objectivity , adding that as much as possible, it would eliminate cases of  class struggle in the service.

The Head of Service stressed the need to create a congenial workforce, present the picture of a forward looking civil service being piloted by progressive minded people and build a highly motivated workforce.

Earlier in a remark, the Permanent Secretary, Establishments and Records, Office of the Head of Service of the Federation, Mr. Charles Bonat who was represented by the Director, Jobs, Standard Development and Grading Department, Alhaji Abubakar Mohammed stressed the need to reposition the public service of the country towards meeting the increasing global challenges of the 21st Century.

He said that those privileged to be at the helm of affairs must strive to provide the needed leadership that would transform the organs and tools through which all government programmes are conceived, formulated and executed, adding that in order to achieve this, there was an urgent need to continually review the scheme of service whenever the need arose after proper assessment and evaluation.

The forum was attended by delegates from the thirty- six states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory.
