UDUAGHAN ENJOINS FOREIGN EMBASSIES TO GIVE ACCURATE REPORT ABOUT NIGERIA

Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, has appealed to various embassies in the country not to exaggerate on security issues, but give accurate reports on events in the country to their nations.

Dr. Uduaghan, who made the appeal when the Netherlands Ambassador, paid him a courtesy call in Asaba, stressed the need for accurate report as exaggerated report would create false impression and negative impact.

He said that embassies in the country had the tendency to over blow the account of security situations and vandalism in the country and enjoined them not to paint a different picture from the reality on ground.

The Governor said that such false reports could affect the investment potentials in the country and in the long run affect foreign investors.

His words “Some Embassies have the tendency to over blow report on events in the country and such reports discourage potential foreign investors from coming to partner with Nigeria”.

Dr. Uduaghan appealed for the assistance of Netherland in the area of capacity building in the country in order to ensure good governance.

He also sought for the cooperation of other nations in handling the environmental challenges affecting his administration’s agricultural programme.

He observed that the country needed the assistance of Netherland in dealing with the issue of corruption in Nigeria.

“We are trying to develop processes that are transparent in order to ensure good governance. Investors are more interested in good governance”.

He continued “We want your country to assist us in attracting investors to the state and the country”.

In a brief remark, the Netherland Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Bert Ronhaar stated that his mission to the Niger/Delta region was to strengthen the economic ties between Nigeria and his country.
He encouraged Delta state to provide an enabling environment for investment through safety, good governance and fight against corruption.

Mr. Ronhaar observed that his country would partner with Niger   Delta in different areas especially in Agriculture so as to maintain sustainable development.

His words “I think it is good for me to be honest with you, we try as an embassy to do a lot for Nigeria to portray it in a positive light”.

Speaking further, he noted that the team was in Niger/Delta region to find out the prospect of foreign investment in Delta state and how the state could assist in strengthening economic development between the two nations.

“Another concern for us is in the area of pollution generated by the oil company. This is a global issue that is why we are interested in the development of the Niger/Delta region and attract investment to the area”.
