APC Anambra Set Up Committee To Probe Failure
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, at the weekend, set up a 13-member committee to unearth reasons for the party’s abysmal performance in the state at the last general elections.
Of a special concern was the poor performance of its presidential candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari, who scored a scandalous 33,000 votes against the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar’s 500,000 votes in the state and the inability of the APC to win any seat in both the state and National Assembly polls, despite array of prominent politicians it has in the state.
APC in the state also plans to rebrand the party and has concluded arrangements for a summit to be attended by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, the National Chairman, Chief Adams Oshiomhole, and Senator-elect, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu.
The state Chairman of APC, Chief Basil Ejidike, who made the disclosure at the inauguration of the committee, which has Chief C.J. Chinwuba as the chairman and Chief Peter Ogbuka as secretary in Awka, said one of the reasons for the political summit is to create a viable and strong platform for winning elections.
He mandated the committee to find out the roles played by every stakeholder, including the national, state, local government and ward leaderships of the party, the party’s agents in the elections, security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), during the exercise.
