CODE, NHRC TO Partner on Human Rights Issues in Nigeria's Fragile States

Kolo Kenneth Kadiri

CODE paid a courtesy visit to` the Executive Secretary of National Human Rights Commission, Mr Tony Onyebuchi Ojukwu and other representatives of the Commission on the 19th of March 2019 in order to establish synergy with the commission in sensitizing the public on how to access the basic facilities in their localities while ensuring their rights are protected.

Mr Tony expressed his readiness to partner with CODE in protecting the rights of vulnerable people in the society as it has become necessary to step up campaigns on human rights protection.

He noted that most death cases recorded in some communities across the country is as a result of inability to access basic health and education facilities.

He commended CODE for its resilience in promoting human rights activities, noting the commission’s readiness to partner in the areas of mining activities, businesses and the extractive sector as it infringes on human rights.

He promised collaborations in mainstreaming the Ministry of Mines and Steel Development and representations from the Commission in the committee that grants license to  mining companies, to effectively implement sanctions to revoke licenses of mining companies that default on human rights policies.
