Kolade Johnson: Rights activist backs mass protest against Police over extra-judicial killings

A civil rights activist and Executive Chairman, Centre for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ), Comrade Adeniyi Alimi Sulaiman has declared his total support to the proposed plan mass protest from the well meaning Nigerians against the extra- judicial killings by the men of Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in Lagos State and its environs,particularly over the recent illegal killings of late Kolade Johnson in the Onipetesi area of Lagos on Sunday.

He however disagreed with the authority of the Nigeria Police for parading only two Policemen attached to the Anti-Cultism Squad out of seven(7) Policemen that committed the offence, insisting that seven Police officers involved in the killing of Kolade Johnson and not two Police officers as authority of Nigeria police wanted the public to believe.

He then urged the Police authority in the country to fish out the five remaining Police officers that involved in the killing of the deceased and also calling for the enforcement of death by hanging/firing squad and life imprisonment for any culprit of the dastard act as stipulated in the Force Order No. 237, that it was illegal and unlawful for any security agent to involve in the extra-judicial killing of fellow citizen employed to protect.

According to the Press Statement issued and signed by Comrade Sulaiman which copies were made available to newsmen on Thursday, he called on the well meaning citizens of the country to rise up in free Nigerians from the untimely death of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) and
Nigeria Police as a whole by joining the mass protest against the extra-judicial killings of the Nigeria Police whenever it called out.

He described the dastard act of the men of Nigeria Police as illegal, unconstitutional, unlawful,evil,ungodly,anathema,anti-people and crime against God and humanity

Supporting his argument with the case of Igbo v State and Alia Agu v. State &R. V. Okon in the criminal Code Cap ‘’cap38” of the Federation Law.

Speaking further on the development, he urged Nigerians not to allow the killing of Kolade Johnson and other hapless Nigerians to be swept under the carpet as Police authority used to do in the land, advising Nigeria government to organize psychiatric test for any men of Nigeria Police that would handle the gun in line of their duty so as to curb
the incessant killing of innocent Nigerians by the trigger happy rank and file police officers.

Sulaiman who doubles as Convener, Save Lagos Group (SLG) stressed that the security agents in the country should ready to work in respect of Section 33, 34 and 36 of the amended 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He therefore called on President Muhammadu Buhari and his government to stop paying lip service to the ongoing illegal and unlawful killings of innocent citizens in various parts of the country and as well calling for total disbandment of SARS by declaring it as illegal unit in the Nigeria Police Force.
