COMMENCEMENT OF TRADITIONAL BURIAL CEREMONY
According to Asaba Tradition, traditional burial ceremony commences with
( IKEDO AKWA NA ISI ADA NA DIOPKA) the identification, separation and
turbaning or tieing with ribbon the heads of the departed's first Son
and Daughter ( Diokpa na Ada), on the evening of the interment of the
departed.
The above rite is always performed by the
villages's or large family's ADA ISI ( Most times, it performed by the
oldest of the family or who the celebrants deem fit to touch their head
or who their trust and could exercise greater confidence in).
Same
evening, the Ada in company of other umuada from her village will
perform the IMA PU AGOGO rite at the village's entry point, this is to
ceremonially inform all in the village that her family has officially
started their traditional burial rites and thereby inviting all to join
her family in the ceremony.
