The Acting governor, of Delta state, Prince Sam Obi has charge Deltans to avoid bitterness, rancor conflict and embrace dialogue and harmonious relationship in order to sustain the pace fought for the nation.
Prince Sam Obi who gave the charge during the 2011Armed Forces remembrance emblem appeal week explained that the fallen hero’s of our country paid a supreme sacrifice to enable us enjoy the peace we experience today.
The Acting governor who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government Dr. Beatrice Omeni stated that the annual event was observed in memory of our fallen heroes who laid down their lives during the 1st and 2nd world war the Nigerian civil war and various peace keeping operations in conflict regions.
Prince Obi appealed to Deltans to donate generously towards the Emblem launching as the fund would be used for the rehabilitation of orphans, widows of departed Soldiers and for the surviving disabled ex-servicemen and women in the country.
Explaining further he appealed to all who made pledges at last year’s armed forces remembrance emblem appeal week to redeem it in order for the legion to execute its programmes.
“The state government is always ready to identify with the Nigeria legion. I call on all who made pledges to the body in the past to redeem it as this will enable the legion execute its programmes”.
In a welcome address, the state chairman of Nigeria legion Lt. Col Lucky Bebeteidor commended the state government for their support and pledged the legions continuous loyality to the state.
He noted that the one week programme which commences today was to honour the fallen hero’s and care for the dependants they left behind and appealed to Deltans to donate generously towards the launching to enable the legion achieve its aim.
“We thank the state government for their continuous support. Our prayer is the God will bless you for honouring the national scheme”.
Lt. Col. Bebetoidor appealed to the state governor to include the Nigeria legion as beneficiaries in the state transport scheme saying “we have already applied and appeal to the acting governor to approve it”.
