Jonathan's resignation: South West Group Reacts, spites fire ahead of possible National Show-down

Oodua Group berates call for President's resignation.

The Oodua Nationalist Coalition, (ONAC) has slammed those calling for the resignation of President Goodluck Jonathan, saying that the advocates show a lack of understanding that the challenges facing Nigeria have to do with weak and vulnerable political and economic institutions rather than the individual driving the process. "The call for the President's resignation is short-sighted and will not lead to the resolution of the crisis that is fast engulfing the country."

ONAC stated “Nigerian fortunes are dwindling; the economic and political institutions are weak. This has been the lot of the country since the three regions were annulled and replaced with a garrison state. The current President inherited a wobbling nation battered by years of exploitation and depression aided and fuelled by the Hausa-Fulani oligarchy. Can we simply forget so soon the horrendous crimes committed against the Nigerian people by the Hausa-Fulani Oligachy in its 40 years of stranglehold on Nigeria?

The institutions they put in place are responsible for producing Presidents Shehu Shagari, Generals Ibrahim Babangida, Sanni Abacha,  Olusegun Obasanjo and now Goodluck Jonathan. "If the current President resigns, that will not resolve the contradictions that are plaguing the country", ONAC's spoke's person, Mr Adigun Olowokere said in a statement.

He said there are three categories of people calling for the resignation of the President. Those who want power to return to the North and not necessarily for the good of the majority of the people, those within the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) who have lost out in the malicious stealing and sharing of state resources and thirdly, those who are ignorant of the dynamics of the deep seated contradictions facing Nigeria, who are deluded that the resignation of the President will automatically bring peace.

According to ONAC, there is nothing going on in the country now that the country did not witness during Presidents Obasanjo and the late Umaru Yar Adua. In the years of Abacha and Ibrahim Babangida, Nigeria was a state of blood. Soldiers killed protesters like chicken, many were thrown away into the Atlantic Ocean during a peaceful protest in Lagos, Ken Saro Wiwa and 8 others were murdered, Dele Giwa was bombed, University students were massacred by soldiers and through the Structural Adjustment Programme, (SAP) IBB killed the industrial base of the country and produced millions of unemployed, angry and hungry people.

These two regimes made Hausa-Fulani mini gods and many Northerners became billionaires from the resources of the Niger-delta people. This is apart from the cultural and political genocide committed against people of the South and Middle Belt.

In one day, 78 soldiers of Middle Belt origin were massacred by IBB. Abacha was said to have fed reptiles with the flesh of people of the South for his spiritual upliftment. Today, it is not the Federal Government of President Jonathan that is killing and maiming, rather, it is the Boko Haram which controlled and manipulated by the same Hausa-Fulani, a continuation of the atrocities of these Hausa-Fulani tyrants through the terrorist gangs the Hausa-Fulani North had nursed over the years.

The solution to these unending problems is the fundamental restructuring of the country to guarantee self-determination. Any attempt by the President to resign is like shifting the nature of the conflict, without eliminating the root cause of the problem.

 "We are worried about the complete ignorance of many politicians. How will the South-South people react to the resignation of President Jonathan? Does it not occur to them that such a move will lead to resurgence of armed conflict in the Niger-Delta? In any case, what is the difference between President Goodluck Jonathan and Vice President Sambo, who will replace him if he resigns, and who came to power on the same political platform with the President and which PDP policies are being implemented by the two?  While many are calling for the resignation of the President, they have failed to call for the restructuring of the country and have turned their back against the historic causes of the constant friction that has remained a recurrent decimal in Nigerian political life."

 ONAC insists that the only solution to the lingering political crisis is the convocation of Sovereign National Conference, (SNC), which the Hausa-Fulani North detests.  ONAC however regretted that the National Assembly dominated by the North remains a stumbling block to this outstanding solution to the problem facing Nigeria. If the country is restructured, Boko Haram should be free to contest election and probably the group might win in the North East of the country as evident in the victory of radical Islamic movements recently in the Middle East. 

The recent opposition by the core North to state police, which is a major element of federalism is a clear indication that the problem with Nigeria is the Hausa-Fulani North. It is shocking that political leaders  of the Hausa-Fulani stock have never at any time supported true federalism, it is their wish to control and manipulate Nigeria and even decide the sharing formula of the resources that does not belong to them.

ONAC said the Yoruba youths will not allow itself to be used by the Northern oligarchy to wage its self-seeking war of economic conquest which they refer to as Jihad. It said the Hausa Fulani has committed unpardonable atrocities against the Yoruba nation. The tribe was responsible for denying Chief Awolowo the right to rule and reclaim the lost dignity of Nigeria, responsible for the death of Chief M.K. O Abiola, also behind the killings of many Yoruba activists during the military era and was behind the emergence of President Obasanjo who further emaciated the Yoruba spirit.

"The collapse of Yoruba values reached its ignoble height during the IBB and Abacha era when they imposed military rulers of Northern origin on the Yoruba states whose mission was to expel the basic syllabus that were instrumental to fashioning a dignifying consciousness for the Yoruba child from the Yoruba primary schools like books of D.O Fagunwa, Alawiye and many others built around Yoruba folklores and indigenous knowledge."

 ONAC Stated "Since 1804, when the Fulani launched its evil war of conquest, the Yoruba people have never at any time formed any political alliance with any political party that has its origin in the Hausa-Fulani land.  This did not happen in the past, it did not happen now and it will not happen in the future. The Yoruba people are conscious of the brutal massacre of Afonja in Ilorin and the boastful statement of Sir Ahmadu Bello that he would conquer the entire Yoruba territory up to the sea.

Historically, the Yoruba and Hausa_Fulani are as different and hostile to each other as cat and mouse. The Yoruba has an agelong clash of civilization with the Hausa-Fulani North. Nothing can resolve this dispute because it has consumed many precious Yoruba human lives simply because the Fulani came to power through British fiat immediately after the 1960 independence.

 "We want to see a restructured Nigeria where the port in Lagos and Ondo will be owned by the Yoruba people and where the Ports and the oil resources in the Niger-Delta will be owned by the communities that own them. If these demands are not met, Nigeria should be prepared for the worst.
