MUOBOGARE ORDERS CLOSURE OF SCHOOL IN UDU FOR VANDALISM, OTHERS

The State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Professor Patrick Muoboghare has ordered the immediate closure of Owian in Udu Local Government Area for vandalism and incessant harassment of teachers in the school.

Professor Muoboghare gave this directive in the school when he inspected the damaged school buildings and vandalised vehicles belonging to some teachers.

He said that the school will remain closed until all the damaged structures were repaired, vehicles repaired to the satisfaction of owners as well as guarantee the safety of teachers.

The Commissioner who was shocked with the level of destruction in the school wondered how sane students could destroy structures meant for their use and expect the Ministry to fold its arm and allow such miscreants to remain in school.

Professor Muoboghare said that while the Ministry was contemplating erecting new structures in the school due to population explosion of students, some misguided students and their cohorts would take the law into their hands and destroy the available structures.

While commiserating with the principal and staff of the school for the ordeal they had gone through in the hands of the students, the commissioner appealed to them to remain calm and wait for further directive from the Ministry.

Earlier in her speech, the Principal of the school, Mrs Julie Etemike said that for some time now, some students in collaboration with outsiders had been causing trouble in the school by firing bangers at fellow students and teachers.

She stated that they had been teaching under fear and therefore appealed to the commissioner to come to their aid and save them from the hands of the bad boys.

Meanwhile, Professor Muoboghare has appointed a five-man adhoc Committee to look into the remote and immediate causes of the violent action of the students of the school.

The committee headed by the Director of Adult and Non-Former Education, Mrs. Julie Akinmoyewa has Mrs. Roseline Owhevwo, Mr. Segun Orukomayor and a representative of the Post Primary Education Board as member while the Chief Inspector of Education, Udu Local Government Area, M. Joseph Edafeghwara who would serve as Secretary/Member.

The Committee is to submit its report in two week beginning from the date of first sitting.
