UDUAGHAN FLAGS OFF 2012/2013 FREE RURAL HEALTH SCHEME, CHARGES HEALTH WORKERS TO SHOW COMMITMENT TO DUTY

The Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has charged Medical and Health Workers to show high sense of commitment and sincerity in the discharge of their duties.

Governor Uduaghan gave the charge during the official flag-off ceremony of the 2012/2013 edition of the State Free Rural Health Scheme at Illah in Oshimilli North Local Government Area.

The Governor stated that with a formidable medical and health team that was committed and sincere, the fight to rid the state especially rural areas of sicknesses and diseases would not be impossible.

Dr. Uduaghan said that the programme had continued to experience improvement with every edition since its inception in 2005, adding that surgical care was introduced into the scheme in 2008, even as he stated that dental care and immunization were introduced into the scheme in 2011.

According to him, the 2012/2013 edition had come with the inclusion of a Mobile Field Hospital to attend to surgical cases on the spot.

Earlier in an address, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Otumara stated that the major aim of the scheme apart from combating diseases and other ailments was to take healthcare services to the doorsteps of Deltans especially the less privileged in all the 25 Local Government Areas of the State.

Dr. Otumara said the annual statistics of the scheme from 2008 through 2011 revealed that a total of 78,614 persons from 368 communities distributed across the 25 LGAs of the State were treated for a wide range of disease conditions, adding surgeries recorded 4,740 cases.

While elaborating on the Mobile Field Hospital, the Health Commissioner said that it had the capacity to provide full healthcare delivery of a standard hospital.
